Lesson Plan for Animals in danger Teacher: Sun Hongxia from Tongxiang Qiushi Experimental Middle School Class: Class1 Grade 2, Qiushi Experimental Middle School Teaching Material: P72, Unit1 We need to protect animals. New Standard English Students Book 3 Module9 Animals in danger. Teaching Object:  1. The students will be able to talk about their feelings about animals in danger and why all these happened. 2. Language focus: a. The students will be able to understand and pronounce the following words and phrases: orange, cousin, brown, reserve, surprising, mad, kill, absolutely, hard, away, awful, dirty, peace, find out. b. The students will be able to use the following sentences patterns about animals in danger: I was+ adj. +to do/ It’s +adj. +to do…/ We need (want) to do…. 3. Language skills: The students will be able to find the cause and the result by listening and speaking. 4. Learning Skills: The students will be able to be aware of the cause of the animals in danger.  And the students will be able to find some ways to protect the animals in danger. 5. Affection: The students will aware of the environmental problems and learn about the importance of protecting animals. Important and difficult points: The students will be able to use the sentence patterns to show their feelings and expressions and then find some ways to the problems. Teaching Aids: Blackboard, Chalk, Computer, Overhead Project Procedures & Activities Step1. Warming-up Purpose: To arouse students’ interests in animals. Play a guessing game. Divide the Ss into four groups and get them to have a competition. Each group will have the chance to choose two puzzles. Then guess what animal it is by listening, watching and describing. If the group can’t give the right answer, other groups will have the chance to make some supplements. Don’t forget to give them assessment. Step2. Do Activity1 Purpose: To consolidate the animal words and get Ss familiar with the animal world. Ask the Ss complete the quiz with the words in the box, then call back the answers together. Step3. Lead-in Purpose: To get the Ss to be aware of the animals in danger. 1) Get the Ss to talk about their feelings after the game. 2) Watch a clip of video about Jackie Chan. He was also excited to see the animals, but they are unfortunately in danger. Step4. Listening One Purpose: To get the Ss to be aware what animals are in danger. 1) Ask the Ss : Do you know what animals are in danger? 2) Listen and check the answers with their deskmates and then check together. Step5. Listening Two Purpose: To train Ss’ listening ability and get the Ss to be aware of the reasons: why are the animals in danger. 1) Ask the Ss to discuss in groups: why are the animals in danger. 2) Get the Ss to show their ideas about why the animals are in danger, T list the reasons on the blackboard and teach the new words at the same time. Pay attention when they list the reasons, they can make some supplements each other. Step6 Listen and Read Purpose: To get the Ss focus on the text about animals in danger. 1) Listen and answer the questions 2) Open the books and read for details. 3) Read together. Step7 Extension Purpose: To get the Ss to know some ways about protecting the animals 1) Get the Ss to discuss in groups of four and talk about the ways to protect the animals. T list the ways of protecting animals on the Bb. 2) Ask the Ss to report the ideas of protecting animals in danger. 3) Get the Ss to work in groups and make a poster to advise people to protect animals in danger. They may draw a simple picture and write one or two sentences. 4) Share Ss’ posters and read their posters to the rest of the class. Step 8 Homework Purpose: To consolidate what they have learnt today Write a short passage about animals in danger, tell us about their situation, problems and ways to protect the animals.
