The Structure of an Interview
Job interviews typically consist of an introduction, background, discussion and close.
Introduction This is a crucial time for you to establish rapport with the interviewer or interviewers. The interviewer will provide brief details about the organisation and position.
Background - Yours! The recruitor obtains information from the applicant to assess skills and qualities.
Discussion - matching needs. Your needs and those of the employer.
Close Question time. You can ask the interviewer/s about the organisation and also take this chance to provide a brief review of why you should get the job i.e. relate your skills, experience and education to the needs of the job. Make sure you determine when and how you are to be notified about the success or otherwise of the interview and your application. Thank the interviewer/s for their time and if the interview is face-to-face, finish with a firm handshake.
