中國(guó)的長(zhǎng)城漢語中常叫作“萬里長(zhǎng)城”。實(shí)際上它長(zhǎng)6 ooo多公里。它從西到東，穿過沙漠，越過高山，跨過深谷，蜿蜒而行，最后直到海邊。它是世界上的'奇觀之一。
長(zhǎng)城有兩千多年的歷史。最早是在春秋時(shí)期開始修筑的。戰(zhàn)國(guó)時(shí)期，各諸候國(guó)為了保衛(wèi)自己的邊境，分別修筑了更多的城墻。在秦朝時(shí)，秦國(guó)把各諸侯國(guó)統(tǒng)一起來，成為一個(gè)帝國(guó)。為了御敵于國(guó)門之外，秦始皇令人把所有的城墻連接起來。這樣，長(zhǎng)城就形成了。
長(zhǎng)城上面很寬，足夠五匹馬或10個(gè)人并排而行。沿城墻有許多烽火臺(tái)，過去常有士兵駐守。敵人來時(shí)，就點(diǎn)燃烽火，以通知其他士兵。
沒有任何現(xiàn)代機(jī)器，要修筑這樣一座長(zhǎng)城是非常困難的。所有的工作都不得不用手來完成。成千上萬的人死了，被埋在自己修建的城墻下面。長(zhǎng)城不僅是用石頭和土筑成的，而且也是用數(shù)以百萬計(jì)的人的血肉筑成的。
今天，長(zhǎng)城不僅對(duì)中國(guó)人，而且對(duì)來自全世界各地的人們來說都是一處名勝。其中許多人都已知道這句中國(guó)名言：“不到長(zhǎng)城非好漢”。

The sellers shouts could be heard every now and then.I remembered that the day before I had asked Mother to buy some fresh fish.
Most of the fish there was frozen, but we had not much trouble in finding some fresh fish at the other part of the market.
My mother bought something else as well.
